by a number of crude cartoons in which the Koumintang
is represented as a dog urged on by foreigners to
attack the Chinese proletariat. In this case the
artist has emphasized his meaning by prefixing to
the character for TANG (party) the sign for 'dog',
a form of insult commonly employed by Chinese in the
past when inventing id£ograms for the names of
Tartar tribes on their borders.
6. In the course of the last week in July,
a number of Communist leaflets were picked up in the
streets and in the neighbourhood of the Dockyards.

I enclose specimens of leaflets in the English language which were found on Murray Parade ground on July 31st. These together with information obtained from other sources indicated that an attempt would be made to carry out some kind of demonstration.
The plans of the agitators were ambitious. was to be a lightning strike for one day. course of the day parties consisting of speakers, pamphlet distributors and 'Red Guards' were to gather at certain specified points, where the 'Red Guards' were to keep the police at bay while the speakers delivered their orations.
